About JDKnitter

I started officially designing knitwear since Fall 2011 when my pattern “Tweedy” was published by Petite Purls.

Before the publication of my first official pattern, I was a sample knitter. I made samples for number of well-known designers such as Anne Kuo Lukito (CraftyDiversions), Stefanie Japel (Fitted Knits, Glam Knits), Mathew Gnagy (Knitting Off the Axis), Bruce Weinstein (Knits Men Want, Boyfriend Sweaters), and Rose Beck (RosyPosy). I learned most of what I know, in terms of writing patterns and knitting techniques from the designers.

In order to learn more about construction and garment making techniques, I enrolled myself to a design school in Summer 2012.

My aesthetics is mostly influenced by my mom’s, always simple and classy but detail-oriented. My mom was a fashion designer before she got married and had a very very successful career with her own boutique/label; and even when my sister and I were growing up, my mom would take us fabric shopping and make us clothes, so people making clothes at home was not a shocking concept to me.

My designs have been published by both self publication label “Jean Chung Designs” as well as magazines such as Twist Collective, Interweave Knitscene, Knitty, and Petite Purls.
